Ajay Nagre, Director, IMDR |
I am very happy to present the placement brochure of the 34th batch of the Post Graduate Program in Management. IMDR is 34-year-old institution that has chosen a different and more serious path to management education. We have consciously eschewed the focus on glitz and glamour that has been adopted by most of our peers and instead chosen the path of focusing on quality of education. |

IMDR is dynamic in a different way. We have always been in the forefront of management education in Pune. We were the first to launch the MBA program, then affiliated to the University of Pune, in 1974. In 1977, we decided to seek autonomy and voluntarily delinked from the Pune University. In 1991, when the government launched on a program of economic liberalization, we were the first to launch a one-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Export Operations (PGDEO), this was upgraded to a full time Post Graduate Diploma in International Trade (PGDIT) in 1994-95. In the year 2003, we launched the full two years the Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Resources (PGDHR) course. IMDR is a constituent of the Deccan Education Society, a 123-year-old institution founded by the doyens of the freedom struggle like Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Ganesh Agarkar. as an institute has never been lured by the temptations of media driven hype. We have instead chosen to focus on delivering quality education. This begins with our selection process. We shortlist students based on theCommon Admission Test conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management. This gives us access to a large pool of quality students from across the country. In 1995, we replaced the traditional selection process adopted by most Management Institutes with a Competency Based Process. Competency based assessment is a system for assessing a person’s knowledge and skills. Assessment is based on demonstrated skills and application of knowledge in a workplace or in other relevant context under adverse situations. Thus demonstrated behavior rather than what is espoused or projected is the basis of assessment. This process provides an objective basis for selection. All the students studying on our campus are selected on the basis of merit & merit alone. We have no management quota, needless to mention we do not accept capitation fee. Our fees are amongst the lowest for non-aided institutions. This ensures that deserving students are not excluded owing to their inability to pay exorbitant fees. This ensures a uniformly high caliber of students in the classroom. Our curriculum is systematically designed using inputs from a renowned Education Technologist and is based on the Instructional Systems Design Methodology (ISDM), which aims at integrating various disciplines in Management. Our curricular, co-curricular & extra curricular processes provide a platform for our students to grow into proactive & responsible professionals. Our learning processes are self-driven. Our co-curricular & extra curricular activities are student driven. We do not employ full time professionals to manage our placement activities. Our students manage it themselves and would not have it any other way. Placements, cultural activities, industrial visits, or induction of juniors, our students undertake these activities on their own in the time-honored IMDR tradition. They set objectives, frame rules, decide boundary conditions & penalties for crossing boundaries, incorporate checks and balances; get it approved. They then implement it in an open & transparent manner, learning to manage the pulls & pressures innate in such activities. At IMDR, we believe in Management Professionals who are down to earth and who are capable of creating context specific responses rather than canned solutions. We have incorporated subjects like Individual & Society and Indigenous Management Processes to build a conceptual base. We have incorporated a co-curricular activity called The Saturday Group work which exposes students to the ground-level realities. Students work with a not for profit organization (NPO) as volunteers and achieve a given target, they also undertake group based community work on the campus. Students learn to value work of all kinds and develop a positive attitude towards people and society. It also helps them to become aware of the attitudes and skills necessary to work effectively in a group. To give a Global perspective to our students and faculty, IMDR has a tie-up with ESSCA, one of France’s leading business schools since 2001. Under this exchange program, our students have the opportunity to participate in one semester at ESSCA’s campuses in France and Budapest. Similarly French students participate in one trimester / semester at our campus. This year we have broadened and deepened this partnership to include faculty exchange. You will find our students hands on professional, who are proactive and down to earth and rooted in our specific cultural context. My colleagues join me in inviting you to our campus to participate in the Placement Process for the year 2007-08. |
