The selection procedure at IMDR is entirely competency based, without any reservations or quotas based on regions, sponsorship or management nominations.
There are 70 seats for this program. Graduates from discipline with or without work experience are eligible to apply for admission to this program, provided they have obtained not less than 50% marks in their graduation. Final year graduate students are also eligible. Selection is made through two stages: Stage 1 is the written test. Interested candidates are required to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM). They apply separately to IMDR quoting the CAT registration number. On the basis of performance in the test, about 250 students are short listed for the next step. In stage 2, there are two processes, Group Task and Personal Interview. Both are intended to assess personal competencies. Preparation is neither necessary nor desirable at this stage. The final selection is made on the basis of overall assessment.
